Art

INTENT

  • A broad and balanced coverage of art skills.
  • Teaching of skills as well as knowledge and understanding Art.DT
  • The Art programme is in line with the National Curriculum and covers all skills needed in each Key Stage.
  • Progression of skills being covered, so the children’s learning is moving forwards- we mapped out these skills as a staffing community and they are now all on Arbor.
  • Art community links ie. visiting artists and LEO events broadens the children’s opportunities and skillbase beyond the arts curriculum.
  • We are catering for our all our pupils (SEND, EAL, Disadvantage Pupils) by providing cross curricular learning- many of our pupils enjoy learning through doing- Art week with links to DT, art competition within the LEO in the summer term, art with cross-curricular links i.e. topic. All children are encouraged to participate in all art activities with support if needed.
  • Cheam Park Farm Juniors benefit from a specialist Art teacher who teaches all KS2 children their weekly art lessons.
  • Art clubs run throughout the school year for all ages and stages.
  • Art competitions from within LEO, locally and nationally are available for children to participate in.

IMPLEMENTATION

  • Art is taught once a week - the duration of time is dependent on the subject and the lesson. This is also linked to other areas of the curriculum instead of a stand-alone lesson.
  • Evidence of this will be in the sketch books or school boards and as a subject leader, book scans are carried out (with the staff and without the staff present) to ensure this is happening.
  • We speak to the children about how their units have gone, what they have enjoyed and what they haven’t. Feedback is considered for the subsequent year so planning can be improved or adapted as necessary.
  • Assessment is formative, objectives being completed when they have been taught and at the end of the year a teacher judgement is made.

IMPACT

  • Subject Review Meetings are held twice a year as a North Cheam Hub where an action plan is set and reviewed.
  • Sketch books and displays are a record of children’s progress and achievement.
  • Teachers are encouraged to use all areas of the curriculum to develop the art skills needed in each year group.
  • Children look forward to Art events i.e. Art week. They will hopefully develop a love and knowledge of the subject as a result of the curriculum coverage and special events held.
  • Artsmark award journey will inform future art units to consider and it also helps celebrate the art work we already cover in all subjects.
  • Art community links ie. visiting artists and LEO events broadens the children’s opportunities and skillbase beyond the arts curriculum.
